A gift list is the simplest and most useful holiday tool. It prevents duplicate gifts, shows what is left and, when you update it, keeps your spending in check. The interactive list above lets you add people, ideas, prices and status, and saves automatically in your browser. You can print it as a one-page checklist or export it as a CSV file to open in a spreadsheet.

What to track
At a minimum, record each person's name, the gift idea, the price and a status. Useful extras include the store, the order number, the return deadline, the size and a note about delivery. For families with children, add a column for the sizes and the ages. For mailed gifts, record the date shipped and the tracking number, which helps if a parcel is delayed.
Use the status field to move each gift through four stages: idea, bought, wrapped and delivered. Seeing the list move from left to right gives a clear picture of progress. Review it each Sunday in November and December.
How to fill it in
Start by listing everyone, including small obligations such as teachers, coworkers and neighbors. Then, for each person, write one idea, not three. If you have no idea, use our gift finder with their age and interests, or read the guide for their relationship, such as mom or dad. Add the price when you decide, and record it when you buy.
If you have more than one idea, put the second in the notes. If the first sells out, you are ready. Do not buy two gifts for the same person just because you found a bargain, unless you plan to keep one for next year.
Printing and sharing
Use the print button to create a clean list. The print layout removes the navigation, uses a high-contrast style and fits on one page for up to about twenty lines. Place it on the refrigerator or in a notebook. Do not share a list that reveals surprises in a place recipients may see it.
If you share the task with a partner, export the CSV and share it in a private spreadsheet, or print a copy each. Agree who buys for whom and who wraps. Update the list after each purchase to avoid duplicates. Some households color-code, one color per buyer.
Wish lists for others
If you want to help others shop for you, make a wish list of five to ten items at different prices. Include sizes, colors and links, and mention items you do not want, such as duplicate items or things that add clutter. Share it by the end of October so that buyers have time. Include experiences and consumables. Keep it modest, and thank people whatever they give.
Return and exchange notes
Use the notes column to record the retailer and the return deadline. Many holiday return windows extend into January, but not all. See our return policies guide for typical windows. Keep gift receipts in an envelope, and write the recipient's name on the envelope.
Privacy
The list is stored in your browser's local storage. It is not uploaded, and we cannot see it. Clearing site data removes the list, so export a copy if it matters. If you use a shared computer, clear the list after printing.
